Children's Mental Health Week

The theme for Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week was Let's Connect and that was exactly what we did.

On Thursday, we went into 1C and spent a lovely half an hour sharing books and reading to the children in Year 1.

Mrs O'Brien delivered a fantastic workshop in the hall whereby she went through different regulation strategies for us to use in class. We covered three sections: Breathe, Positivity and Unwind.

We learnt about different breathing techniques using our hands as well as using feathers and sensory balls.

We then learnt about positive affirmations and morning mantras. These will become part of our daily routines within class.

And then lastly, we did some meditation whilst listening to Mrs O'Brien read one of the meditation stories in the book that we were able to bring back to our class, as part of the calm box.

When we got back to class, we each created a handprint drawing around our own hand and then decorating it in whichever way we wanted. It is going to be used as part of a whole-school display, so watch this space for the finished product...

Lastly, in the afternoon we gathered in the hall for a singing session. Each year group performed a song in front of the rest of the school. It was lovely to hear everyone singing so joyfully and really finished the week on a positive note.
