The Digestive System!

Image
We really enjoyed doing The Digestive System demonstration in class. Well most of us, some of us thought it was a bit too disgusting and didn't want to look at the last part.  Firstly, we put a slice of bread into each sandwich bag (to contain the mess!) and used our hands to tear the bread into small chunks.  Then we used our hands to squish the chucks of bread together.  Mrs Hurst added some of her water to act as saliva. We then had another go at squishing the bread with our hands. All of these steps were to demonstrate the job of the mouth, teeth and tongue in the first stage of the digestive system.  As you can see, we all enjoyed having a go at this. It was fun participating in something hands on, to support the learning that had taken place previously where we had learned about the various stages of the Digestive System.  These are all the resources we used to carry out the demonstration.  Next, we added lemon juice and washing up liquid to act as the stomach acids, enzyme

Core Values - Resilience

Well done to Olly Jay for being the first person in 4HT to be given the Core Values award for demonstrating resilience. Here he is at the Core Values Tea Party enjoying some tasty treats with the rest of the winners.

Calm Me!

Image
We have been training our bodies and minds since September to become more still and mindful during our Calm Me sessions. We always have an image on the screen that we can focus on if we would like to, and this is linked to the calming music that is playing.  Some of us like to keep our eyes open, others like to close their eyes and lay their heads on the table in front of us. We then do some basic breathing exercises to help calm our bodies and minds.

Connect Us - Making Letters

Image
We had a giggle during our PSHE session where we were set the challenge by Mrs Hurst of working together in groups of 3 and 4 to try and make as many capital letters as we could.  Here are some photos. Can you guess which letters we are trying to make?

WW2 Evacuee Trip

Image
We had the most wonderful time on our trip yesterday. We were transported back to 1940 where the children were evacuated.  We met some fascinating people who told us stories of their experiences as evacuee children. We went to a school and met a war time teacher who showed us lots of interesting artifacts, we even got to dress up! The air raid was rather loud, we had to hide in a shelter where we heard the sounds of enemy planes above, it was a brilliant way of trying to help us understand what it would have been like for children living through an air raid. Then it was time to catch our train! We enjoyed singing songs and even saw a German spy! Luckily Mr Forrester and Mr Warren were there to catch her and save the day! We finished the by attempting to fill a bucket with water using a wartime pump and hose, it was really hard work!
