World Book Day

Image
Well what a fantastic day we had on Thursday for World Book Day! First of all, let's take a moment to appreciate the costumes and the level of effort that everyone made.  We held our own catwalk show in the classroom and each of us shared the word that we had come dressed up as. The adults managed to select the top 5 costumes, whittle it down to 2 and then we voted on who the winner should be.  We then had a special assembly in the hall where the winners from each class were announced.  The winner in 4HT was Betty for coming as the word 'biodiversity'.    Sienna was a very close 2nd as her costume was fantastic!  We headed outside for a Reading Trail which was great fun and definitely challenged us!  At the end of the day, Mrs Reading came to read to us and then we spent some time reading with children in her class.

Performance Poetry Winners!

Well, well, well...We are excited to announce that we were chosen as the winners of the Upper Phase Performance Poetry Competition.  We gathered in the hall for the performances and enjoyed listening to each class from Years 3, 4 and 5 perform their poems.  Each of the poems were taken from this book: In Year 4 we had the poem Your Epic Self by Kate Wakeling to learn and recite off by heart...   Ocean deep, quick as a comet, your epic self is a force beyond.   You can open any lock, you can scale any cliff, you can sniff out a lie from a mile off.   I once saw you switch on every lightbulb in town with just your smile.   Your ideas are a fistful of gold pieces, your words are strong as salt.   You can keep a secret quieter that clouds but when you see a wrong not put right, oh there’s no sound mightier than your tiger roar.   And sure, your epic self doesn’t surface every day.   No one’s does.   But ...

Children's Mental Health Week

The theme for Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week was Let's Connect and that was exactly what we did.   On Thursday, we went into 1C and spent a lovely half an hour sharing books and reading to the children in Year 1.  Mrs O'Brien delivered a fantastic workshop in the hall whereby she went through different regulation strategies for us to use in class. We covered three sections: Breathe, Positivity and Unwind.  We learnt about different breathing techniques using our hands as well as using feathers and sensory balls.  We then learnt about positive affirmations and morning mantras. These will become part of our daily routines within class.  And then lastly, we did some meditation whilst listening to Mrs O'Brien read one of the meditation stories in the book that we were able to bring back to our class, as part of the calm box.  When we got back to class, we each created a handprint drawing around our own hand and then decorating it in whichev...
